Had you told me 2 years ago that I would be publishing my first book by the end of this month, I would have laughed at you.
I had a few different ideas in my head for a while, but nothing really stuck. I decided that as a 2018 resolution I would read and write more. Specifically, I wanted to write every day. I am so glad that I pushed myself, even the days that I didn’t want to. The red sketchbook below is where I put my first idea and from there the story evolved into what it is today. Eventually, I left the sketchbook alone, only using it when I didn’t have access to my laptop and began typing everything instead.
The idea grew so fast that it became overwhelming for me, and around April of 2018, I stopped writing completely. I wrote ideas here and there but didn’t fully pick it back up until September of 2019. It was difficult, but I made myself keep working at it, telling myself that even one sentence was better than nothing. Even with doing house renovations since October of 2019, I made sure to do a little bit here and there.
When my first draft was completed in May 2020, there were 145,000+ words. The day I typed that last word, I almost cried. Little did I know that the easiest part was over. From May until July I edited everything twice. Currently (in August) my sister-in-law is helping me with the final touches. I almost gave up more times than I’d like to admit.
A lot of my motivation came from my strong support system; my husband, brother, best friends, and sister-in-law. Without them, I would have quit a while ago. I’m beyond excited to have gotten this far and hope to continue with the ideas I have for future books. (Yes you read that right; books with an s!)
My point here is that even when you feel like giving up just keep going. You can do it! If no one else does, I believe in you!
